Microchip launches radiation-tolerant clock generator for spacecraft
Microchip Technology (Nasdaq: MCHP) has introduced the DSA504RT, a radiation-tolerant, six-output programmable clock generator targeting aerospace and defense applications, according to a company press release.
The device generates multiple phase-aligned frequencies from a single master source, which the company says reduces the need for multiple discrete oscillators and lowers overall component count. Microchip says the DSA504RT can replace multiple crystals, oscillators and buffers with a single chip.
The DSA504RT features an Analog Phase-Locked Loop with spread spectrum capability, two fractional and two integer dividers, and six configurable output buffers. Each buffer can be configured as a differential driver supporting LVPECL, LVDS or HCSL standards, or as a pair of single-ended CMOS outputs. The device delivers jitter performance as low as 200 femtoseconds and is compliant with PCIe Gen 1–7 standards.
The product is available in QFN28 and CQFP32 packages and is intended to work alongside radiation-tolerant or radiation-hardened FPGAs and MCUs in aerospace and defense systems.
"Replacing numerous oscillators, buffers and synthesizers, the DSA504RT saves board space and reduces part count to improve the system Failures in Time rate in these high reliability applications," said Maamoun Abou Seido, vice president of Microchip's timing communications group.
The DSA504RT is currently available in limited sampling upon request.
