UL Solutions Inc. (NYSE: ULS) has opened a new automotive electromagnetic compatibility laboratory in Toyota City, Japan, with operations set to begin July 1, according to a company statement.

The facility, called the Automotive Technology and Innovation Center, spans 2,322.58 square meters (25,000 square feet) and is located in Japan's Tokai region. The lab is equipped for high-voltage, high-current, high-torque and high-speed rotational testing, with chambers capable of handling up to 25,000 RPM, more than 3,500 Nm torque, and power supplies delivering up to 1,500 volts and 1,000 amps.

The laboratory provides EMC testing designed to help manufacturers protect vehicle systems such as braking, steering and engine control from electromagnetic interference. It also supports compliance with global regulatory standards.

"Automakers are moving faster, integrating more electronics and facing increasing regulatory and market demands," said Alex Dadakis, executive vice president and president of Testing, Inspection and Certification at UL Solutions. "This new laboratory strengthens our ability to support customers in Japan and around the world with independent, science-based EMC testing that reflects real-world vehicle conditions."

Japan produced more than 8 million vehicles in 2025, making it the world's third-largest automotive producer, according to data cited from Statbase. The new Toyota City facility complements UL Solutions' existing Automotive Technology Center in Miyoshi City, expanding the company's EMC testing presence in Japan as part of a broader network across Asia, Europe and North America.
