NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) has released StorageGRID 12.1, an update to its object storage platform that the company says delivers up to 12 TB/s of throughput for AI workloads, according to a press release from the San Jose, Calif.-based company.

The new version includes a global federated namespace that supports scaling up to 10 exabytes across multiple distributed StorageGRID systems without requiring changes to existing applications or workflows. NetApp claims the release delivers up to 400% higher throughput compared to StorageGRID 12.0, depending on workload and object size.

Additional features include batch operations for managing billions of objects, tools for AI agents to track changes to object storage buckets since the last scan, and expanded security controls including multi-admin verification for regulated environments.

"With StorageGRID 12.1, NetApp is extending the power of our data platform, giving customers a globally unified namespace to manage data at scale, accelerate AI and analytics workloads, and extract more value from their data wherever it lives," said Sandeep Singh, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Platform at NetApp.

Forrester named NetApp a Leader in its inaugural Forrester Wave evaluation of the object storage market, The Forrester Wave: Object Storage Solutions, Q2 2026. The report states that NetApp is "a strong fit for large enterprises managing distributed, regulated object estates that want to balance governance and hybrid consistency against the need for AI-native storage services."
