Fluence Energy launches 10 MWh Smartstack energy storage system
Fluence Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLNC) introduced the Smartstack 10 MWh, an expansion of its existing Smartstack energy storage platform, which previously offered a 7.5 MWh configuration.
According to a company press release, the new system maintains the same physical footprint as its predecessor while increasing storage capacity through an updated pod design. Fluence states the system achieves a site-level energy density of approximately 680 MWh per acre (168 kWh/m²).
The company said the 10 MWh system has completed Large-Scale Fire Testing and features a compartmentalized design intended to limit thermal exposure.
"Smartstack was built as a platform, and the 10 MWh system shows why that matters," said Peter Williams, SVP and Chief Product and Supply Chain Officer at Fluence. "As battery technology, supply chains, and local content requirements continue to evolve, customers need storage systems that can adapt without redesigning projects from the ground up."
Fluence claims the system can reduce balance-of-plant costs by up to 40% compared to standard DC blocks. The company also cited a 99.3% availability rate across reviewed fleets of 50 MW and above, based on an independent review.
The Smartstack platform is integrated with Fluence OS, the company's asset optimization software, and is commercially available for grid-scale applications worldwide in 2-, 4-, 6-, and 8-hour storage durations.
