Cloudflare and beehiiv partner on AI crawler controls for publishers

June 23, 2026 9:01 AM

Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE: NET) and newsletter platform beehiiv have announced a partnership that embeds Cloudflare's AI Crawl Control technology into the beehiiv platform, giving newsletter publishers tools to manage how AI bots access their content.

The integration offers beehiiv users two primary settings: an opt-in mode that allows AI search engines and agents to crawl content freely, and a content protection mode that blocks AI scraping. The companies said the integration removes the need for manual technical configurations such as robots.txt file updates.

Key features of the integration include an analytics dashboard showing which AI crawlers are attempting to access content and the referral traffic they generate, one-click toggle controls to block or allow specific AI models, and automatic updates to account for new AI crawlers as they emerge.

AI Crawl Control will be available in beta to all beehiiv users, providing visibility into AI crawler activity. Blocking capabilities will be limited to beehiiv Max subscribers. The features are rolling out through the platform's standard dashboard settings, according to a joint press release.

"This partnership with beehiiv is the next logical step in that mission, giving newsletter operators the transparency and control to navigate the AI era on their own terms," said Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare.

Tyler Denk, co-founder and CEO of beehiiv, said the partnership gives creators "the data and controls they need to either maximize discovery and distribution, or protect their writing and dictate their own terms."

beehiiv says it serves more than 135,000 publishers across newsletters, websites, and podcasts.
