Insmed names Samuele Butera to lead global respiratory unit
Insmed Incorporated (Nasdaq: INSM) has appointed Samuele Butera as Senior Vice President, General Manager, Global Respiratory, effective June 23, 2026. In the role, Butera will lead Insmed's Respiratory Therapeutic Area, report to Chair and Chief Executive Officer Will Lewis, and serve on the company's Executive Committee.
Butera joins Insmed with more than two decades of commercial leadership experience. Most recently, he served as President of Pulmonary Hypertension & Retina at Johnson & Johnson, where he oversaw a multi-billion-dollar business unit and the launch of OPSYNVI (macitentan and tadalafil). He also held the position of Worldwide Vice President of Infectious Diseases & Vaccines at Johnson & Johnson.
Before Johnson & Johnson, Butera held senior roles at Novartis, including Global Head of Cell & Gene Therapies, where he led the worldwide launch of KYMRIAH (tisagenlecleucel). He also served as Vice President & Head of Oncology CAR-T U.S. and as Vice President & Head of North America for Sandoz Biopharmaceuticals. Earlier in his career, he held positions at McKinsey & Company, Goldman Sachs, and the United Nations.
Butera holds a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science in International Economics from Università Bocconi in Milan, Italy.
"His depth of commercial expertise and proven ability to lead high-performing teams in some of the most complex and competitive therapeutic areas in our industry will be invaluable," Lewis said in a statement, citing the ongoing launch of BRINSUPRI, potential expansion of ARIKAYCE's label, and the TPIP development program as priorities for the new role.
