Descartes Systems Group (Nasdaq: DSGX) has launched AuditLog, a new capability within its Descartes MyCarrierPortal platform designed to help freight brokers, third-party logistics providers and shippers document and manage carrier selection processes.

The feature combines carrier review management and audit logging in a single workflow, automatically recording carrier risk assessments, management oversight and onboarding decisions at the time they are made. According to the company, this creates a historical record of what information was available and considered during each review.

The release of AuditLog follows a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II, LLC, which the company says has increased scrutiny around carrier vetting practices and documentation of reasonable care in carrier selection.

Caribe Transport II, LLC, documenting carrier vetting activities, establishing consistent review practices and demonstrating reasonable care in carrier selection is coming under greater scrutiny," said Dan Cicerchi, EVP, Corporate & Operations Development at Descartes.

AuditLog allows organizations to document carrier approvals and denials with supporting rationale, route carriers through management review processes, establish future review dates and create auditable records of selection decisions. The tool is built directly into the existing MyCarrierPortal carrier onboarding and compliance solution.

Bridgeway Director of Accounts Receivable Holly Phillips said the new capabilities would be "increasingly valuable as organizations look to strengthen and document their carrier selection processes" following the Montgomery decision.

AuditLog is available to all existing Descartes MyCarrierPortal customers as of the announcement date.
