Organon launches two denosumab biosimilars in Canada
Organon (NYSE: OGN) and Shanghai Henlius Biotech (2696.HK) have launched two denosumab biosimilars in Canada: BILDYOS (denosumab injection) 60 mg/1 mL, a biosimilar to Prolia, and TUZEMTY (denosumab injection) 120 mg/1.7 mL, a biosimilar to Xgeva.
According to a press release statement, both products are now available for all indications of their respective reference products. Denosumab treatments are used to treat osteoporosis and bone events associated with cancer.
The two launches bring Organon's biosimilars portfolio in Canada to eight products across five therapeutic areas, including oncology.
Dominic Bégin, President and Managing Director at Organon Canada, said the biosimilars introduce additional treatment options for osteoporosis, a condition that affects an estimated 2.3 million Canadians, according to Osteoporosis Canada.
The commercialization of the two products stems from a license and supply agreement signed in 2022 between Organon and Henlius, under which Organon received exclusive global commercialization rights to several Henlius biosimilars, excluding China.
Dr. Famida Jiwa, President and CEO of Osteoporosis Canada, said the addition of approved denosumab therapies supports clinicians and patients in managing osteoporosis treatment options with greater flexibility.
