HII (NYSE: HII) has been awarded a $418 million contract by Naval Sea Systems Command to repair and maintain shipboard elevators on U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and amphibious ships, according to a press release from the company.

The five-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract will be carried out by HII's Mission Technologies division, which will provide engineering, maintenance, and technical repair support for elevators, cargo handling equipment, and associated systems installed on the vessels.

Work will be performed within the continental United States, outside the continental United States, and at forward-deployed locations globally.

Under the contract, HII's Mission Technologies division will also conduct training for sailors and provide rapid response fly-away teams that deploy globally to handle complex maintenance and repairs.

"Ensuring that essential operational systems — including shipboard elevators — run reliably is central to meeting the readiness needs of our U.S. sailors and Marines," said Michael Lempke, president of Mission Technologies' Global Security group.

HII is headquartered in Virginia and employs approximately 44,000 people.
