Volkswagen enters Uzbekistan market via China operations

June 22, 2026 7:28 AM

Investing.com -- Volkswagen AG announced today the launch of its Volkswagen and Jetta brands in Uzbekistan. This marks the first time the German automaker manages an export market entirely through its China operations.

The company said it plans to tap into Uzbekistan's growing automotive market, where vehicle demand increased to over 461,000 units in 2025 from less than half that amount in 2021.

Volkswagen will sell its models at 13 locations by the end of this year. The automaker expects the number of dealerships to grow to nearly 26 locations by 2028.

The initial model lineup includes the Tiguan L Pro, Passat Pro, Teramont Pro and vehicles from the Jetta brand.

Volkswagen said the next step involves adding local production to supplement vehicle exports.

The company stated this expansion is part of a strategy targeting growth markets in the CIS region, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
