Terrestrial Energy signs land and R&D deals with Texas A&M system
Terrestrial Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: IMSR) and The Texas A&M University System have signed ground lease and research and development agreements that provide Terrestrial Energy with exclusive access to approximately 77 acres at the Texas A&M-RELLIS campus in Bryan, Texas.
The agreements enable site characterization and environmental evaluations required for an application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for a permit to construct an Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) Plant. The work is subject to further approvals by the A&M System's Board of Regents before nuclear activities begin.
The agreements also cover testing activities and two Department of Energy partnership projects, referred to as TETRA and TEFLA. A Master Research Agreement was signed in the first quarter of 2026 to govern collaborative testing work between Terrestrial Energy and the A&M System.
Terrestrial Energy has opened an engineering and project management office at the RELLIS campus to direct the site projects. The agreements follow a Memorandum of Understanding announced in 2025, when the A&M System selected Terrestrial Energy for its Energy Proving Ground initiative.
In April 2026, the NRC issued a safety evaluation on the company's Topical Report on IMSR Postulated Initiating Events methodology, following a late 2025 safety evaluation on its Topical Report on IMSR Principal Design Criteria. In May 2026, Terrestrial Energy announced a separate agreement with Riot Platforms to develop IMSR-powered data center projects targeting up to 4 gigawatts of generating capacity.
"These agreements capture the vision announced with the 2025 MOU and allow our Company to move forward with a powerful partnership across multiple projects," said Simon Irish, chief executive officer of Terrestrial Energy.
Robert L. Albritton, chairman of the A&M System Board of Regents, said the RELLIS campus was created to bring researchers, industry leaders, and public partners together to move technology to commercial reality.
