D-Wave announces gate-model quantum computing simulator for 2026

D-Wave Quantum Inc. (NYSE: QBTS) announced a forthcoming gate-model quantum computing simulator that the company claims will be the first designed for error-aware programming, with access scheduled to begin in September 2026.

The simulator is built around D-Wave's dual-rail technology and is intended to give developers visibility into errors so they can design applications that respond to quantum processor behavior. It will support error detection and real-time control capabilities, according to a press release from the company.

Technical specifications include support for up to 21 qubits, ideal and hardware emulation modes, Monte Carlo simulation of real-time quantum system dynamics, and integration with D-Wave's Ocean SDK. The simulator will be available through D-Wave's Leap cloud platform.

"What makes our approach different is that error awareness is built into the architecture through dual-rail technology, giving developers access to error-detection data and real-time control capabilities that can help them design more resilient quantum applications," said Dr. Trevor Lanting, chief development officer at D-Wave.

D-Wave will offer quantum development bundles providing access to the simulator and forthcoming gate-model systems, available in Starter and Premium packages with monthly access allocations. Pricing is available upon request.

The announcement is part of D-Wave's gate-model roadmap, which the company outlined earlier this year. D-Wave describes itself as offering both annealing and gate-model quantum computing products and services.
