Investing.com -- JetBlue Airways plans to close its flight attendant base at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and tech operations bases at Newark and LaGuardia Airport in New York this fall, CNBC reported on Wednesday.

The carrier said the closures are part of efforts to reduce costs and improve service at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, a profitable hub where JetBlue operates as the top carrier.

JetBlue held a 13% share of airline seats across five airports in the New York metropolitan area, including Newark, LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International Airport, at the end of 2025, according to its annual report.

The airline told CNBC that staff would not lose their jobs due to the operational changes. Employees can bid or transfer to other bases.

Earlier this year, JetBlue announced plans to slow hiring, reduce capacity and raise fares to address rising jet fuel costs that threaten the carrier's turnaround efforts.

The company said it would continue expanding in South Florida, taking advantage of increased gate availability in the region.
