IonQ launches Clavis XG Multiplex for metro fiber quantum security
IonQ (NYSE: IONQ) announced the Clavis XG Multiplex, a new product in its Clavis XG Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) portfolio that allows quantum and classical network traffic to coexist on existing metropolitan fiber infrastructure.
According to the company, the product is designed to let operators deploy quantum security without redesigning or dedicating separate optical networks, which IonQ says lowers the cost of implementing QKD on existing infrastructure.
Jordan Shapiro, IonQ President of Quantum Platform, said the product "gives customers the flexibility to send multiple types of data across the same fiber, making the existing infrastructure more enterprise grade, secure, and QKD cheaper to operate."
IonQ states the product is intended to address the "harvest now, decrypt later" security threat, in which encrypted data is collected now and decrypted once quantum computing capabilities advance. According to the 2026 Thales Data Threat Report, 61% of surveyed respondents identified this as their top quantum-related security concern.
The Clavis XG Multiplex is designed to work alongside IonQ's Clarion KX software platform, which the company describes as an end-to-end quantum-safe key exchange system. Together, the two products are intended to form what IonQ calls a unified quantum security architecture combining quantum-derived keys and post-quantum cryptography.
IonQ is headquartered in College Park, Maryland, and trades on the New York Stock Exchange.
