Graham Corporation names Painter as board chairman as Thoren retires
Graham Corporation (NYSE: GHM) announced that Jonathan W. Painter has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective June 15, 2026, following the retirement of Daniel J. Thoren from his role as Executive Chairman and Director.
Painter previously served as Chairman until June 2025, when he moved to Lead Independent Director as part of the company's CEO succession plan. With Thoren's departure, Painter reassumes the chairman role.
Thoren, who transitioned from President and CEO to Executive Chairman in June 2025, will remain with the Batavia, N.Y.-based company as a Strategic Advisor through June 2027, focusing on business development initiatives.
Following Thoren's exit from the board, the board will return to seven directors, having been temporarily expanded to eight members to support the leadership transition.
Painter commented on the transition: "On behalf of the Board, I want to express our deep gratitude to Dan for his exceptional contributions to Graham Corporation over the last five years."
Thoren said: "Matt has done an exceptional job since taking over as CEO a year ago, and I have full confidence in his leadership and the strength of the team he has built."
Matthew J. Malone assumed the role of President and CEO in June 2025 following a planned succession process. The leadership changes are part of a transition plan first announced in February 2025.
