Ouster strikes lidar supply deal with AIM for autonomous earthmovers
Ouster, Inc. (Nasdaq: OUST) and AIM Intelligent Machines announced a strategic agreement under which Ouster will supply digital lidar sensors to AIM for use in autonomous heavy earthmoving equipment at mining, construction, and defense sites.
The agreement expands a multi-year collaboration between the two companies and is designed to guarantee a high-volume supply of Ouster's digital lidar sensors as AIM scales deployments of its autonomy kits. AIM's system retrofits existing heavy machinery, including bulldozers and excavators, in under 24 hours without voiding original equipment manufacturer warranties.
AIM said it plans to integrate Ouster's Rev8 native color digital lidar into its platform. The Rev8 sensor produces color point clouds and 3D structural data. AIM said the sensor is expected to support faster edge computing, streamlined sensor fusion, and improved object classification in high-dust industrial environments.
AIM's autonomy kit operates without cellular networks, cloud infrastructure, or GPS signals, and includes a single Ouster lidar housed in an armored enclosure, machine-angle sensors, and a localized edge computer running onboard reinforcement learning software.
