Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and GM Defense announced a memorandum of understanding to explore ways to combine their manufacturing capabilities in support of U.S. defense production, according to a press release dated June 16, 2026.

The collaboration, facilitated by the U.S. Department of Defense, will focus on three areas: strengthening defense supply chains, advancing manufacturing and design capabilities, and evaluating opportunities to expand production capacity using commercial manufacturing infrastructure.

Initial efforts will include exploring ways to accelerate production readiness and apply commercial manufacturing approaches to defense production requirements. The companies said they expect to identify specific projects in the coming weeks.

Frank St. John, chief operating officer of Lockheed Martin, said in a statement: "This collaboration brings together two leaders in American manufacturing and innovation to explore new ways to strengthen the defense industrial base, expand production capacity and accelerate delivery of critical capabilities for the United States and its allies."

Steve duMont, president of GM Defense, said the partnership aims to drive "greater speed, efficiency, and innovation in the aerospace and defense sectors."

GM Defense is a subsidiary of General Motors focused on vehicles, power, autonomy, and connectivity solutions for defense and government markets.
