Snap Inc. (NYSE: SNAP) unveiled SPECS, a standalone augmented reality headset built into see-through glasses, and opened pre-orders at $2,195 with a $200 refundable deposit. The company said the device is expected to ship this fall in the United States, United Kingdom, and France.

SPECS are available in two frame sizes — 47 mm at 132 grams and 52 mm at 136 grams — and are made from Swiss TR90 polymer. The glasses feature a proprietary liquid crystal on silicon display with a 51-degree field of view and support for 16 million colors. Snap said the field of view is equivalent to a 24-inch desktop monitor or a 115-inch screen placed roughly 10 feet away.

The device is powered by two Snapdragon processors and delivers 7-millisecond motion-to-photon latency, according to the company. Electrochromic lenses shift from clear to tinted in 10 seconds. Battery life is rated at up to 4 hours of mixed use, with an included charging case providing four additional charges for up to 20 total hours.

Snap said SPECS include an LED indicator that activates during recording and prioritize on-device data processing as part of a stated privacy-first approach.

The company also announced developer tools for the SPECS platform, including agentic development support in Lens Studio rolling out through Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, along with a SPECS Spatial Benchmark, a Migration Agent, and a Native Development Kit.

Snap said it has filed more than 7,000 patents related to augmented reality technology. The company operates SPECS through Specs Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary.
