Keysight Technologies acquires VPIphotonics to expand photonic design tools

June 16, 2026 11:01 AM

Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) completed the acquisition of VPIphotonics on June 9, 2026, adding system-level simulation capabilities to its photonic design automation portfolio. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The acquisition brings VPIphotonics Design Suite into Keysight's existing portfolio, which includes RSoft for device-level simulation and Photonic Designer for circuit-level design. The combined offering is intended to allow engineers to work across device physics, circuit design, and full optical link performance within a single environment.

One product resulting from the integration is VPI Optical Link in Keysight ADS, which enables simulation of a full transceiver path covering electrical-to-optical-to-electrical signals in a single analysis, including bit error rate prediction, without requiring engineers to transfer designs between separate tools.

Nilesh Kamdar, General Manager of Keysight EDA, said: "Photonics design complexity continues to increase for our customers, especially for those working at speeds greater than 1 THz. Having a complete suite of tools that address these challenges from device to system is crucial."

Dr. André Richter, General Manager of VPIphotonics, said: "Joining Keysight means we can engineer powerful, more complete workflow solutions to serve our customers better."
