Moderna names new CCO and expands president's role ahead of product launches
Moderna, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRNA) announced organizational changes to its operating model, including an expanded role for President Stephen Hoge and the appointment of Ester Banque as Chief Commercial Officer, effective June 15, 2026.
Dr. Hoge will assume operational and cross-functional oversight across Research & Development, Manufacturing, and Commercial for the company's three franchises: infectious disease, Intismeran, and rare disease.
Banque joins Moderna from Zoetis, where she served as Executive Vice President and President of U.S. Operations. Prior to that, she held senior roles at Bristol Myers Squibb, where she oversaw the launch of five products in the U.S. Hematology & Cell Therapy business, and spent 25 years at Novartis in leadership positions across multiple therapeutic areas and geographies. She will report to CEO Stéphane Bancel and serve on Moderna's Executive Committee.
The company said it is anticipating the potential launch of up to three new products in 2027 and 2028, including flu-plus-COVID combination, seasonal flu, and norovirus vaccines. Moderna also expects clinical data readouts this year for its investigational individualized neoantigen therapy, Intismeran autogene, and a treatment for the rare disease propionic acidemia, which could support potential oncology and rare disease product launches.
Moderna currently has four approved products within its infectious disease vaccine business. According to a statement from the press release, CEO Stéphane Bancel said the organizational changes are intended to "strengthen our operating model" as the company prepares to manage three commercial franchises.
