Aeva Technologies (NASDAQ: AEVA) and Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC have announced an agreement to develop a LiDAR-based active safety solution for Class 8 commercial vehicles, according to a press release from Aeva.

The program will integrate Aeva's 4D LiDAR sensors and perception software into Bendix's collision mitigation systems targeting mass-production Class 8 trucks. Bendix's existing Bendix Fusion driver assistance system is already available across most major Class 8 original equipment manufacturer platforms in North America.

Approximately 300,000 new Class 8 trucks are sold annually in North America, according to the press release.

Mike Tober, Chief Technology Officer at Bendix, said: "Aeva's 4D LiDAR provides capabilities that can improve system performance in critical driving scenarios, helping support the next generation of collision mitigation solutions that perform more effectively across a wider range of real-world operating conditions."

Mina Rezk, Co-founder and CTO at Aeva, said the program represents "an important milestone" in the companies' collaboration and "a significant step toward mass production of a first-of-its-kind LiDAR-based L2+ driver assistance solution for commercial vehicles."

Bendix is a subsidiary of Knorr-Bremse and employs more than 3,600 people. Aeva, based in Mountain View, California, develops sensing and perception systems using silicon photonics-based lidar-on-chip technology.
