VEON's JazzCash adds government treasury bills to its mobile app
VEON Ltd (NASDAQ: VEON) announced that its digital financial services units JazzCash and Mobilink Bank have begun offering Pakistani Government Treasury Bills through the JazzCash mobile app, with a minimum investment of PKR 5,000 (approximately $18).
The product, developed in coordination with Pakistan's Ministry of Finance and the State Bank of Pakistan, is available to eligible JazzCash customers who hold a verified account and an active Mobilink Bank deposit account. The offering is currently limited to 3-month Treasury Bills, with plans to extend access to longer-maturity instruments. Mobilink Bank serves as the regulated custodian and trustee.
Government securities in Pakistan have traditionally been accessible only through banks and brokerages. JazzCash reported a registered customer base of 60 million and processed more than PKR 16.8 trillion (approximately $59.7 billion) in gross transaction value in the year to March 2026. The company said it is targeting one million active investors through the initiative.
Pakistan's Stock Exchange reached 563,000 investors in May 2026. The press release states there are approximately 1.4 million existing public market participants across equities, mutual funds, and commodities in the country.
"By making investing in government treasury bills more accessible, we are giving people across Pakistan real tools to create, build and protect their wealth," said Kaan Terzioglu, CEO of VEON.
Muhammad Aurangzeb, Pakistan's Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, said the initiative supports the government's goal to "deepen Pakistan's financial markets, mobilize domestic savings and expand citizens' participation in the formal economy."
The launch event was held at JazzCash headquarters in Islamabad.
