Vishay extends automotive ferrite bead series with smaller sizes
Vishay Intertechnology (NYSE: VSH) expanded its ILHB series of automotive-grade multilayer chip ferrite beads to include smaller case sizes and higher current capabilities. The company announced the devices are now available in 0402, 0603, 0805, 1008, and 1206 case sizes with current handling up to 6 A and impedance values ranging from 10 Ω to 2700 Ω.
The expanded lineup allows for higher current handling in smaller packages while delivering two to three times the current capability for the same package size and impedance value compared to previous versions. The ferrite beads are designed for EMC noise reduction in automotive energy distribution systems, industrial automation, home controls, computers, consumer devices, medical instrumentation, avionics, and telecom infrastructure.
The AEC-Q200 qualified devices feature a silver inner conductor with copper, nickel, and tin plating. They operate in temperatures from -55°C to +125°C and meet RoHS compliance standards. The components are halogen-free and meet Vishay's environmental standards.
The company enhanced product datasheets with additional design parameters including impedance peak value and frequency, the frequency at which impedance drops below nominal value, and X- and R-frequency crossover points. These parameters help engineers estimate bead performance across frequencies without consulting multiple performance graphs.
Samples and production quantities are available with lead times of 8 to 10 weeks. The devices span current ratings from 0.05 A to 6 A depending on case size, with DC resistance ranging from 7 mΩ to 2400 mΩ maximum.
