Spire Global signs defense agreement with Diehl Defence for missile warning
Spire Global Inc. (NYSE: SPIR) signed a memorandum of understanding with Diehl Defence to collaborate on satellite-based intelligence and early warning systems for ballistic and hypersonic missiles. The agreement was executed at the ILA Berlin Airshow 2026.
The partnership combines Spire's satellite constellation operations with Diehl Defence's air defense and guided missile system expertise. The collaboration aims to support German and European defense initiatives, aligning with Germany's space security strategy for information superiority across offensive and defensive capabilities.
"With Diehl Defence, we are combining Spire's vertically integrated expertise — from building and operating our own small satellite constellation to delivering space-based data and analytics — with decades of industrial defense experience to help strengthen security from space for Germany and Europe," said Theresa Condor, CEO of Spire Global.
Helmut Rauch, CEO of Diehl Defence, stated the partnership expands the company's portfolio with space-based elements and strengthens its position as a systems house connecting intelligence from space to weapons systems and command centers.
Spire recently opened a satellite manufacturing facility in Munich with capacity to produce up to 100 satellites annually. The facility features an ISO-certified clean room and supports end-to-end satellite manufacturing including integration, testing, and payload development.
The company operates a satellite constellation providing radio frequency signal detection, geolocation, and analytics capabilities for defense applications including early warning, spoofing detection, and space-based tracking.
