Ouster releases BlueCity traffic system with 500-foot detection range

June 10, 2026 7:02 AM

Ouster Inc. (NASDAQ: OUST) announced the release of its BlueCity traffic management solution powered by new Rev8 digital lidar technology. The system provides 500-foot detection range and incorporates what the company describes as native color lidar capabilities.

The City of Stamford, Connecticut became the first to deploy the BlueCity system with Rev8 technology. According to the press release, the installation enables 360-degree corridor-level detection for traffic optimization and safety monitoring.

"Ouster BlueCity with Rev8 lidar sensors allows us to take a massive leap forward in our transportation infrastructure," said Stephen Frycz, Transportation Manager for the City of Stamford. The system captures color data alongside extended detection range for traffic management.

BlueCity combines 3D lidar with AI detection software for intersection and highway traffic management. Ouster states the solution has over 700 contracted site deployments, including three large installations in the United States.

The Rev8 system captures both color and 3D depth information simultaneously without requiring calibration between sensors. The technology provides up to double the range and resolution compared to the previous generation, according to the company.

The system operates in temperatures from -40°C to +85°C and carries IP68/69K environmental ratings. Installation can be completed in approximately three hours using existing traffic infrastructure. The Rev8 hardware has a planned 10-year production life.

BlueCity integrates with existing traffic controllers for signal actuation and can replace multiple cameras, radars, and inductive loops at intersections. The system includes NVIDIA edge computing capabilities for traffic analytics processing.

The solution is BABA certified and complies with NEMA TS2 cybersecurity requirements. Ouster offers both perpetual and software-as-a-service licensing models for the analytics platform.
