Ouster completes traffic management system for 2026 FIFA World Cup

June 9, 2026 6:01 AM

Ouster Inc. (NASDAQ: OUST) announced the completion of its BlueCity traffic management system deployment at over 40 locations across highways surrounding MetLife Stadium in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The installations follow a 2025 contract awarded by the New Jersey Department of Transportation to Ouster and its distribution partner, Signal Control Products. The BlueCity system combines 3D lidar technology with AI detection to provide traffic monitoring and real-time safety alerts.

The deployment integrates into New Jersey's statewide Advanced Traffic Management System. NJDOT has implemented what the company describes as a digital traffic twin for urban highways and freeways around the MetLife Stadium complex, incorporating data from lidar and IoT technologies.

"This is the largest ITS project NJDOT has ever done, and they did it in record time," said Laura Demeo Chace, CEO of ITS America. The system will provide traffic monitoring and management capabilities for an expected one million World Cup visitors.

The project creates a connected corridor that provides NJDOT operators with real-time traffic condition views and enables management of bottlenecks and safety events. The traffic management infrastructure will remain operational beyond the World Cup event.

Ouster BlueCity uses lidar sensors for multimodal actuation, alerts, and analytics. The company positions itself as a provider of sensing and perception technology for industrial, robotics, automotive, and smart infrastructure applications.

The information was disclosed in a company press release statement.
