Amazon to invest over €10 billion in European operations, add 25,000 jobs

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced plans to invest more than €10 billion to expand and modernize fulfillment centers across Europe over the coming years, according to a company statement. The investment includes deployment of next-generation robotics and will create 25,000 new jobs in the region.

The company unveiled an upgraded version of its autonomous Proteus robot that can operate throughout fulfillment sites and respond to conversational text prompts from employees. Amazon plans to deploy the robot in Europe during the first half of 2027.

Amazon will expand its STARK robotic system, which handles tote placement alongside employees, to 15 European sites by 2027. The system was initially piloted in Barcelona, Spain.

The company committed $1 billion to its Career Choice program by 2030, which provides fully funded education and training. More than 300,000 employees have participated globally, including 30,000 in the UK. The program covers high-growth fields including cybersecurity, software development, and renewable energy.

Amazon Now ultra-fast delivery service will expand internationally, with plans to reach Manchester and Birmingham this year after launching in parts of London. The service delivers groceries and essentials within 30 minutes.

The company is adding Sub Same-Day Delivery sites to more than 25 European locations, allowing customers to order until 5 p.m. for delivery by 10 p.m. the same day in cities including Coventry, UK and Nürnberg, Germany.

Amazon reached 50,000 electric delivery vans globally, marking progress toward its goal of 100,000 electric vans by 2030. The fleet includes custom vans built with Rivian and vehicles from Mercedes-Benz.

The company stated it invested more than €60 billion across Europe in 2025 and supports more than 1.5 million jobs in the region.
