Peacock to stream FIFA World Cup 2026 with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos

June 5, 2026 10:01 AM

Dolby Laboratories (NYSE: DLB) and NBCUniversal announced that Peacock will stream Telemundo's Spanish-language coverage of FIFA World Cup 2026 in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos with Dolby AC-4. The companies stated this represents the first streaming deployment of these technologies for World Cup coverage.

All 104 matches will be available with the enhanced audio and visual technologies on Peacock's streaming platform. The collaboration involved over a year of joint engineering work between Dolby and NBCUniversal teams to integrate Dolby's streaming tools with NBCUniversal's HDR production capabilities.

The deployment marks the first commercial use of Dolby AC-4 by a video streaming service. Dolby AC-4 delivers audio with up to 50% greater efficiency compared to traditional codecs, according to the companies' joint statement.

"There is no bigger stage in sports, and now Peacock viewers will experience every moment the way it was meant to be seen and heard," said John Couling, Senior Vice President of Entertainment at Dolby Laboratories.

David Bohunek, Senior Vice President of Global Video Engineering at NBCUniversal, stated that the technology combination will provide "a truly stunning viewing experience they can't get anywhere else."

Dolby Vision provides enhanced color range and contrast, while Dolby Atmos creates multi-dimensional audio experiences. The AC-4 codec will also enable dialogue enhancement and audio personalization features for viewers.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will take place across venues in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Peacock serves as NBCUniversal's streaming platform, offering live sports coverage including NFL, Premier League, NBA, and MLB content.
