Airbus falls behind on A321XLR deliveries to IndiGo

June 5, 2026 7:58 AM

Investing.com -- Airbus SE is experiencing delays in delivering the A321XLR aircraft to Indian carrier IndiGo, with the airline unlikely to receive all nine units expected this year, Bloomberg reported Friday.

InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., which operates Asia's largest low-cost carrier, was scheduled to receive the XLR jets by the end of the year. The delivery timeline for some units has been pushed back by several months, according to the report. IndiGo has taken delivery of two XLR jets, which are currently operating on routes to Athens and Istanbul.

The France-based planemaker attributed the delays to Middle East war disruptions affecting its supply chain, the report said. IndiGo is now in talks with Airbus to secure more favorable delivery slots.

The A321XLR is designed to enable budget airlines to operate long-haul routes using single-aisle aircraft instead of widebody models. IndiGo has ordered 40 of the aircraft.

Airbus started delivering the XLR model to customers in 2025.
