Target recalls Up & Up baby wipes due to bacterial contamination

June 4, 2026 7:44 PM

Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT) announced a voluntary recall of Up & Up Fragrance Free and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes following customer complaints and FDA testing that identified bacterial contamination in product samples.

The recall affects products sold nationwide at Target stores and online. FDA testing detected the presence of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli bacteria in the wipes, which were manufactured by supplier Sapro Temizlik Urunleri.

The recalled products include multiple sizes of fragrance-free wipes ranging from 20-count to 1,200-count packages, with manufacturing dates from November 7, 2025, to May 5, 2026. Fresh cucumber scented wipes in 72-count, 216-count, and 800-count packages with manufacturing dates from December 29-30, 2025, are also included in the recall.

Target and the manufacturer received consumer complaints regarding product discoloration and reports of skin irritation, eye irritation, and infections potentially linked to the products. The company stated these reports remain under investigation.

The bacteria can cause serious infections, particularly in newborns, infants, and immunocompromised individuals. In healthy individuals, contaminated products may result in local skin infections, while vulnerable populations face risks of bloodstream infections, sepsis, or pneumonia.

Customers should immediately stop using the recalled products and return them to any Target store for a full refund. Target Guest Relations can be reached at 1-800-440-0680 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. CT daily for additional information.

The recall is being conducted with FDA knowledge, according to the company's statement.
