Motorola Solutions launches SafetyCam for retail worker safety
Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI) unveiled SafetyCam, a wearable device that combines video security, voice communications, panic button and AI assistance for retail workers. The device is designed to deter theft and de-escalate customer conflicts through visible recording and remote intervention capabilities.
The wearable features a front-facing display that shows subjects they are being recorded and includes a remote talk-down feature allowing off-site personnel to intervene in customer disputes. SafetyCam streams live video, voice transcripts and location data to supervisors and security teams for real-time incident monitoring.
The device includes an AI voice assistant that enables workers to make calls, query workplace policies, look up product information and access real-time translation in more than 50 languages. The system aims to provide operational support beyond traditional security recording.
"SafetyCam is purpose-built for the store floor, where a fragmented set of tools isn't an option," said Mahesh Saptharishi, executive vice president and chief technology officer at Motorola Solutions.
The launch addresses rising retail crime concerns, with the National Retail Federation reporting that 73% of retailers cite increased customer aggression and violence, while 44% identify lack of evidence as a barrier to reporting theft to law enforcement.
Motorola Solutions has begun retail pilots of the converged safety solution. The company will demonstrate SafetyCam at the NRF Protect 2026 conference in Grapevine, Texas from June 8-10.
The information is based on a company press release statement.
