Pinterest Inc. (NYSE: PINS) announced a $4 billion commitment for cloud services with Amazon Web Services through 2031, marking the largest infrastructure agreement in the company's history.

The expanded partnership with AWS, an Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) subsidiary, builds on a collaboration that began in 2010. Pinterest plans to use the cloud services to accelerate its artificial intelligence capabilities and modernize infrastructure supporting its visual search platform used by over 600 million monthly users.

"This expanded commitment with AWS gives us the compute flexibility, hardware optionality, and infrastructure efficiency to accelerate our AI vision for the next generation of visual discovery on Pinterest," said Matt Madrigal, Pinterest's Chief Technology Officer.

Under the agreement, Pinterest will expand its use of Amazon's custom silicon, including Trainium chips for running large language models and vision-language models, and Graviton processors that currently power about one-third of Pinterest's compute infrastructure.

The company also plans to transition from traditional EC2-based environments to a Kubernetes-based architecture using Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service. Pinterest states this migration aims to improve developer productivity and operational reliability.

Pinterest has recently launched Pinterest Assistant, a conversational discovery feature powered by vision-language models. The company has been developing AI-driven recommendation systems and multimodal models to enhance its visual search capabilities.

"Pinterest is building some of the most advanced visual AI systems on AWS, powering discovery for more than 600 million users," said Dave Brown, AWS Senior Vice President of Compute and ML Services.

The agreement is structured to support Pinterest's AI model training, inference operations, and platform infrastructure through 2031.
