SOPHiA GENETICS signs joint venture MOU with Memorial Sloan Kettering
SOPHiA GENETICS (NASDAQ: SOPH) announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to form a joint venture focused on precision oncology.
The collaboration aims to combine MSK's clinical data and expertise with SOPHiA GENETICS's artificial intelligence platform to develop precision medicine solutions. SOPHiA GENETICS's SOPHiA DDM platform has analyzed more than 2.5 million cases since 2014, while MSK's sequencing program has processed more than 150,000 tumor samples during the same period.
The proposed precision medicine hub would serve as an incubation center for developing new diagnostic capabilities and deploying them to patients globally. The initiative targets faster development cycles for moving discoveries from research to clinical care compared to traditional models.
For pharmaceutical partners, the hub would provide infrastructure for companion diagnostics development and clinical algorithm creation. SOPHiA DDM would function as the AI and analytics platform, while MSK would contribute clinical leadership and data generation capabilities.
The companies have previously collaborated through license agreements involving MSK assays such as MSK-IMPACT and MSK-ACCESS, which SOPHiA GENETICS has deployed to hospitals and laboratories in 35 countries through its platform.
"By combining MSK's clinical leadership and deep clinical data with SOPHiA GENETICS's AI platform and global infrastructure, the precision medicine hub that we are discussing will help move precision oncology into the multimodal era," said Ross Muken, president of SOPHiA GENETICS.
Michael G. Frank, director of digital health business development at MSK, said the collaboration represents the integration of clinical expertise with AI technology to transform cancer care delivery.
The announcement comes as targeted cancer therapies are driving molecular diagnostics earlier in treatment pathways, creating demand for new diagnostic capabilities and scalable testing platforms.
