Winchester Interconnect launches VITA 67.2 RF connector line for defense systems
Winchester Interconnect, a subsidiary of Aptiv PLC (NYSE: APTV), launched a VITA 67.2 RF connector product line that places up to eight high-frequency signal channels inside a standard Open VPX backplane slot. The connectors eliminate external coaxial cabling traditionally required in aerospace and defense systems.
The new connectors feature field-serviceable blind-mate engagement, allowing modules to push straight into the backplane without precise alignment or twist-to-lock steps. Each RF contact includes built-in float to absorb manufacturing tolerances and maintain signal quality through repeated installations and high-vibration environments.
The product line supports DC to 26.5 GHz standard frequency range, with options extending to 40 GHz. The connectors use stainless steel housing and gold-plated contacts, qualified to MIL-STD-810 and VITA 47 standards for shock and vibration resistance.
"With the addition of VITA 67.2 solutions to our growing line of multiport gangmate interconnect products, we are further solidifying our ability to support next-generation high-density RF applications," said Leslie Sullivan, Director of Product Management.
The connectors target electronic warfare, signals intelligence, radar and sonar systems, avionics, secure communications, and C4ISR platforms. They install into 6U Open VPX slot positions and maintain compatibility with VITA 46 standards.
The connectors support up to eight SMPM coaxial contacts per module while maintaining a standard VPX footprint. They are built to OpenVPX (VITA 65) standard and designed to align with the Sensor Open Systems Architecture framework.
