Granite wins $19 million water system project in Lake Tahoe

June 3, 2026 4:32 PM

Granite Construction (NYSE: GVA) has been awarded an approximately $19 million contract for the initial phase of the Tahoe Cedars Water System Replacement Project by the Tahoe City Public Utility District.

The project will modernize water infrastructure serving the Tahoe Cedars community on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, California. The work involves replacing aging pipelines and system components that have operated beyond their intended service life.

The initial phase includes installation of 15,000 linear feet of new water mains, relocation of more than 200 existing service lines, installation of 29 fire hydrants, and integration of approximately 200 residential water meters.

Construction is expected to begin in mid-June 2026 and be completed in October 2026. This represents the first year of a planned four-year construction program.

The project aims to improve system reliability, reduce water loss, and strengthen fire protection capabilities in the Tahoe Basin, an area identified as high-risk for wildfires. The upgraded system is designed to meet current regulatory standards with an anticipated service life of at least 50 years.

Granite received the contract through a Progressive Design-Build process with a Guaranteed Maximum Price structure. Chris Burke, Granite Vice President of Regional Operations, said the award resulted from collaboration between the project team members.

The information is based on a company press release.
