Singapore secures LNG replacement cargoes after Qatar disruption

June 3, 2026 2:02 PM

Investing.com -- Singapore has obtained sufficient liquefied natural gas shipments to replace lost supplies from Qatar through the end of 2026, meeting 100% of its gas requirements, Singapore Energy Market Authority Chief Executive Puah Kok Keong said Wednesday in Houston.

The replacement shipments were acquired from suppliers in Australia, the United States and Africa, Keong said.

The Qatar supply disruption stems from the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran. If the disruption ends in the coming months, Singapore has the option to resell the replacement shipments, Keong said.

Qatar provides 10% of the natural gas Singapore uses for electricity generation, equivalent to one cargo per month, Keong said.

Singapore plans to purchase additional LNG from diverse suppliers including the U.S., Australia, Africa and the Middle East to reduce risk, Keong said.
