Tempus launches open-source digital pathology consortium with Yale, MSK

June 3, 2026 8:31 AM

Tempus AI Inc. (NASDAQ: TEM) announced the formation of a digital pathology open-source consortium with Yale New Haven Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as founding members.

The consortium aims to develop an open-source digital pathology platform and viewer to advance standardization in the field. Yale New Haven Hospital and MSK will contribute to defining the consortium's vision, governance and strategic direction.

To support the initiative, Tempus will open source its existing Paige Image Management System, including the FullFocus slide viewer, FullFolio case management solution, and AI orchestration modules. This will provide a clinical-grade baseline solution to institutions globally.

"Pathology is entering a transformative new era," said Razik Yousfi, senior vice president and general manager of AI Products at Tempus. "Advances in deep learning and AI foundation models are enabling digital pathology to generate powerful insights directly from whole slide images, from cancer detection to molecular profiling."

Dr. Chen Liu, chief of pathology at Yale New Haven Hospital, said the consortium represents collaboration between academic and industry partners to build an open, scalable and interoperable digital pathology ecosystem.

Dr. Saad Nadeem, associate attending computer scientist at MSK, noted that digital pathology currently lacks open-source clinical-grade solutions for slide viewing, case management and AI deployment.

The consortium operates independently of Tempus' current commercial digital pathology offerings and is expected to expand its membership over time. Tempus is an MSK licensing partner and provides research funding to MSK for certain activities.
