Intercontinental Exchange reports record trading activity in May 2026
Intercontinental Exchange Inc. (NYSE: ICE) reported May 2026 trading statistics showing total average daily volume increased 14% year-over-year, while open interest rose 24% compared to the same period in 2025.
The company achieved a record open interest of 130.6 million lots on May 25. Energy markets showed total open interest up 6% year-over-year, with record options open interest of 31.2 million lots on May 22.
Natural gas trading demonstrated particular strength, with total natural gas average daily volume up 3% year-over-year and open interest increasing 10%. North American gas open interest climbed 10% year-over-year, reaching a record 41.4 million lots on May 25.
Agriculture and metals markets posted significant gains, with total average daily volume up 60% year-over-year and open interest rising 39%. Cotton showed the largest increase with average daily volume up 151% year-over-year and open interest up 94%. Cocoa average daily volume increased 85% year-over-year.
Financial markets recorded total average daily volume up 37% year-over-year and open interest up 56%, including a record 54.5 million lots on May 29. Interest rates trading showed average daily volume up 38% year-over-year and open interest up 63%.
NYSE cash equities average daily volume increased 12% year-over-year, while NYSE equity options average daily volume rose 54% compared to May 2025.
The statistics were reported in the company's monthly tracking spreadsheet available on its investor relations website, according to the press release statement.
