Insulet rolls out enhanced Omnipod 5 algorithm with Abbott sensor compatibility

June 3, 2026 7:02 AM

Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ: PODD) announced the U.S. rollout of algorithm enhancements for its Omnipod 5 Automated Insulin Delivery System following FDA 510(k) clearance in December 2025. The system is now compatible with Abbott's Libre 3 Plus sensor in the U.S.

The enhanced algorithm introduces a new 100 mg/dL target glucose option, expanding the range of settings from 100-150 mg/dL to provide healthcare providers with six target glucose options. Real-world evidence from 403 people with type 1 diabetes showed that lowering the target glucose from 150 mg/dL to 110 mg/dL improved median time in range by 11.8 percent.

The updated system includes improved alarm handling designed to help users stay in Automated Mode with fewer interruptions during prolonged high glucose events. Omnipod 5 users will receive the updates through an over-the-air software update via their Omnipod 5 Controller or mobile app.

The compatibility with Abbott's Libre 3 Plus sensor allows caregivers to monitor patients through Abbott's LibreLinkup app. Insulet plans additional international rollouts of this compatibility later this year.

"By offering a lower target glucose option and expanding sensor compatibility, we're helping people spend less time making decisions about diabetes and more time feeling confident, supported, and in control," said Eric Benjamin, Insulet Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

The Omnipod 5 system is cleared for people aged 2 and older with type 1 diabetes and aged 18 and older with type 2 diabetes in the U.S. The system automatically adjusts insulin delivery every five minutes without requiring multiple daily injections.
