IREN signs agreement for 800MW data center campus in Australia

June 3, 2026 7:02 AM

IREN Limited (NASDAQ: IREN) announced it signed a transmission connection agreement for an 800MW data center campus in Bundey, South Australia, according to a company press release.

The facility, located approximately 78 miles northeast of Adelaide, represents IREN's first announced Australian data center project. The company secured a high-voltage transmission connection into the utility's substation with four 330kV feeder exits that can support up to 800MW without requiring network upgrades.

IREN expects to begin energization from 2028 and commence early works and procurement alongside regulatory approvals. The project is projected to create more than 200 ongoing skilled jobs and over 500 positions during construction.

The site will benefit from submarine fiber connectivity to regional centers including Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea, and Japan. South Australia's electrical grid targets 100% net renewable energy by 2027.

"South Australia offers what AI infrastructure at scale requires: abundant clean energy, the connectivity to serve the APAC region, and a State Government that understands the opportunity and is acting on it," said Daniel Roberts, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of IREN.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said the project represents significant investment in the state with potential to create construction jobs and strengthen South Australia's position as a technology hub for the Asia-Pacific region.

IREN describes itself as a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider that delivers large-scale data centers and GPU clusters for AI training and inference, with operations across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
