Safe Pro Group wins U.S. Army contract for AI-powered threat detection kit
Safe Pro Group Inc. (NASDAQ: SPAI) announced it received a U.S. Army order for an AI-powered threat analysis kit that integrates the company's edge computing technology with Black Widow drones from Red Cat Holdings (NASDAQ: RCAT).
The contract represents Safe Pro's first turnkey kit order and includes the company's Navigation Observation & Detection Engine (NODE), Red Cat drones, operational support services, and annual software licensing. Safe Pro received the subcontract from a defense prime contractor and expects to complete delivery in the second quarter of 2026.
The NODE system uses Safe Pro's SPOTD technology to detect explosive threats including landmines, cluster munitions, and unexploded ordnance through drone-captured imagery. The system can identify more than 150 types of explosive threats and operates without requiring connectivity, generating 2D and 3D maps with threat locations marked.
Safe Pro's AI technology processes visual data from drones to create battlefield situational awareness maps. The company's dataset includes more than 2.75 million drone images and over 50,348 confirmed detections collected across 35,000 acres of battlefields in Ukraine.
The contract includes AI model and algorithm software upgrades, training, and operational support services beyond the initial hardware delivery. Safe Pro specializes in AI-enabled defense and security solutions, focusing on drone imagery processing for explosive threat identification.
