Safe Pro Group wins U.S. Army contract for AI threat detection kit
Safe Pro Group Inc. (NASDAQ: SPAI) received a U.S. Army order for an AI-powered threat analysis kit that includes the company's edge computing system, Black Widow drones from Red Cat Holdings (NASDAQ: RCAT), and support services.
The contract represents the first turnkey kit order for Safe Pro's Navigation Observation & Detection Engine (NODE), which uses artificial intelligence to identify explosive threats from drone-captured video. The system can detect more than 150 types of explosive threats including landmines, cluster munitions and unexploded ordnance.
Safe Pro received the subcontract from a defense prime contractor to deliver the battlefield intelligence capability to the U.S. Army. The order includes annual software upgrades, training and operational support services. The company expects to complete delivery during the second quarter of 2026.
The NODE system operates without requiring connectivity and processes video data to create detailed 2D and 3D maps that incorporate detected threats. The technology converts drone-collected visual data into maps and models for battlefield situational awareness.
Safe Pro's AI algorithms were trained using what the company describes as one of the world's largest drone-based imagery datasets, containing more than 2.8 million drone images and over 50,368 confirmed detections collected across more than 35,000 acres in Ukraine.
The threat detection kit combines Safe Pro's SPOTD technology with Red Cat's Black Widow drones to provide a complete battlefield intelligence solution. The system generates orthomosaics, vegetation height measurements, terrain slope analysis and digital surface maps.
