Microchip releases PCIe 6.0 retimers for AI data center connectivity

June 2, 2026 7:08 AM

Microchip Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHP) announced the release of XpressConnect PCIe 6.0 and CXL 3.1 retimers designed to address signal reach and latency limitations in AI data centers operating at 64 GT/s speeds.

The retimers achieve pin-to-pin latency of less than 12 nanoseconds, which the company states is approximately 80% lower than PCIe 6.0 specifications. The devices are engineered to extend signal reach beyond conventional PCIe Gen 5 and Gen 6 electrical limits across baseboards, riser cards and cabled interconnects.

"AI data centers are increasingly constrained not by compute, but by the ability to move data efficiently across the system," said Brian McCarson, corporate vice president and general manager of Microchip's data center solutions business unit. "Our XpressConnect retimers are designed to act as the high-performance nerve center of the AI server."

The retimers support flexible link bifurcation configurations including 1×16, 2×8 and 4×4 arrangements. They integrate with PCIe Gen 3, Gen 4 and Gen 5 platforms and connect to Microchip's ChipLink diagnostic ecosystem for real-time monitoring and troubleshooting.

The devices work alongside Microchip's existing data center portfolio, including 3-nm Switchtec PCIe Gen 6 switches, Adaptec SmartRAID controllers and Flashtec NVMe controllers. The retimers include enterprise features such as hot-plug support and end-to-end data integrity.

The XpressConnect retimers are available for purchase directly from Microchip or through authorized distributors. The company did not disclose pricing information in the announcement.
