Autodesk bets big on AI operations with $3.6 billion MaintainX deal
Investing.com -- Autodesk on Thursday reported stronger-than-expected fiscal first-quarter results and announced a $3.6 billion acquisition of maintenance platform MaintainX, expanding its push into AI-powered operations software.
The company posted first-quarter revenue of $1.93 billion, up 18% year over year and 16% in constant currency, while billings also rose 18% to $1.69 billion.
Meanwhile, adjusted earnings per share for the quarter climbed to $2.99, $0.15 better than the analyst estimate of $2.84.
Autodesk also raised its full-year fiscal 2027 guidance, forecasting revenue between $8.16 billion and $8.22 billion and adjusted EPS of $12.40 to $12.65, citing continued momentum despite ongoing sales restructuring efforts.
Chief Financial Officer Janesh Moorjani said Autodesk’s ongoing sales reorganization is progressing as planned and contributed to confidence in raising fiscal 2027 guidance.
Alongside earnings, Autodesk unveiled plans to acquire MaintainX in an all-cash transaction valued at about $3.6 billion. The deal is aimed at strengthening Autodesk Operations Solutions, a platform designed to connect design, manufacturing, and operational workflows using real-world data and AI-driven insights.
CEO Andrew Anagnost said the acquisition will help Autodesk extend beyond design and manufacturing into operations management, allowing customers to optimize assets throughout their lifecycle.
MaintainX, which is expected to surpass $135 million in annual recurring revenue in 2026 with growth above 50%, provides tools for maintenance management, inspections, work orders, and operational analytics.
Autodesk said it plans to finance the acquisition through a mix of cash on hand and debt financing, with the transaction expected to close later this fiscal year pending regulatory approvals.
