Workday and Google Cloud expand AI partnership for workplace integration

May 28, 2026 9:01 AM

Workday Inc. (NASDAQ: WDAY) and Google Cloud announced an expanded strategic partnership to integrate AI agents for human resources and finance directly into workplace applications. The collaboration makes Workday's Sana Self-Service Agent available within Google's Gemini Enterprise platform.

Under the partnership, employees can access Workday data and functions through Gemini Enterprise without switching applications. The integration allows users to check time-off balances, update personal information, view payslips, and request leave through conversational interactions. Managers can review team goals, approve timesheets, and submit payroll input within the AI interface.

Google's Gemini becomes the default AI model for Workday's Sana platform, replacing previous models. The change aims to provide multilingual support and advanced reasoning capabilities for HR and finance workflows. Workday maintains that customers retain flexibility to choose different AI models when required.

The companies are implementing zero-copy technology to share data between Workday Data Cloud and Google Cloud's BigQuery without moving or duplicating information. This approach preserves security permissions and business rules while enabling combined analysis of Workday data with other business information.

The partnership includes collaboration with system integrators Accenture, Deloitte, and KPMG to help enterprise customers implement the AI agents. These partners will identify deployment opportunities and assist with integration across organizational systems.

Workday's Sana Self-Service Agent in Gemini Enterprise is available in early access for eligible Workday customers. Workday Data Cloud is currently available to early adopter customers and will reach general availability later this year.

The announcement represents Workday's strategy to embed AI capabilities within existing enterprise workflows rather than requiring separate AI applications. More than 11,500 organizations worldwide use Workday's enterprise software platforms.
