BlackSky receives seven-figure contract for space imagery automation
BlackSky Technology Inc. (NYSE: BKSY) received a seven-figure, multi-year contract renewal to develop automated non-Earth imagery services, the company announced. The contract expands the scope of an existing program to explore next-generation imaging payload and mission-planning software solutions for space domain awareness operations.
The Herndon, Virginia-based company will deliver high-resolution imagery and AI-enabled analytics of on-orbit objects under the agreement. The contract focuses on developing capabilities for tracking satellites and monitoring debris fields in low-Earth orbit.
"This contract validates confidence in BlackSky's ability to rapidly design and field cutting-edge space technologies," said Brian O'Toole, BlackSky CEO. The company plans to integrate its Gen-3 architecture with specialized imaging payloads to expand coverage and capacity across the space domain.
The contract allows BlackSky to utilize satellite capacity that would otherwise be underutilized when satellites pass over oceans or travel in Earth's shadow. This non-Earth imagery capability represents an expansion beyond the company's traditional Earth observation services.
BlackSky operates a commercial satellite constellation that provides real-time intelligence through its Spectra tasking and analytics software platform. The company serves government agencies and commercial customers with on-demand imagery and monitoring services.
The contract details were disclosed in a press release statement from the company. BlackSky trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BKSY.
