Amazon names Dr. Roy Schoenberg as new head of health services unit
Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) appointed Dr. Roy Schoenberg as the new leader of Amazon Health Services, effective July 1, according to internal messages from company executives.
Schoenberg, a physician and entrepreneur, co-founded telehealth company Amwell in 2006 and served as its chief executive for nearly two decades. He will replace Neil Lindsay, who is stepping down after more than 15 years at Amazon and five years leading the company's healthcare business.
Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Stores at Amazon, announced the leadership change in a message to employees. Under Lindsay's leadership, Amazon's healthcare operations expanded to include Amazon Pharmacy, One Medical, Health AI, and Health Benefits Connector, serving millions of customers.
Lindsay joined Amazon in 2010 and previously led global marketing for Kindle, expanded Prime and Marketing divisions, and established the foundation for the company's healthcare business. He will work with Schoenberg on the transition over the summer and remain available in an advisory capacity through the end of 2026.
In his departure message, Lindsay stated he plans to pursue personal projects and advisory roles with healthcare and technology companies. He described the timing as appropriate to pass leadership to someone with deeper healthcare expertise for the business's next phase.
Schoenberg brings clinical expertise and experience building healthcare technology platforms at scale. During his tenure at Amwell, the company partnered with major health systems, national payers, and public health agencies to develop one of the world's leading telehealth platforms.
