DTE Energy signs $1.6 billion battery storage deal with LG Energy Solution
DTE Energy (NYSE: DTE) announced a $1.6 billion investment in battery energy storage systems manufactured by LG Energy Solution Vertech at its Holland, Michigan facility. The procurement agreement covers eight projects delivering 1.5 gigawatts of battery storage capacity over two years.
The battery storage systems will store electricity during excess generation periods and distribute power during peak customer demand, reducing grid strain and improving reliability. The projects are expected to generate an estimated $2.3 billion in total economic impact according to the company's press release.
"By working with LG Energy Solution Vertech to bring more battery storage online through their Holland, Mich. manufacturing facility, we're keeping Michigan at the forefront of technology and economic opportunity," said Joi Harris, president and chief executive officer of DTE Energy.
The agreement will support 1,800 jobs at LG Energy Solution's manufacturing plant in Holland and more than 350 additional positions across construction and operations. DTE spent approximately $2.9 billion with Michigan-based businesses in 2025, according to the release.
The battery storage projects relate to DTE's data center development initiatives. The company states that battery energy storage systems funded by Oracle for a data center in Saline Township will meet DTE's portion of Michigan's 2030 clean energy standard for battery storage.
DTE invested nearly $4 billion in 2025 to improve infrastructure and generate cleaner energy. The utility serves 2.3 million electric customers in Southeast Michigan and 1.4 million natural gas customers across the state.
