Virtuix wins U.S. Air Force contract for AI military platform
Virtuix Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: VTIX) received Phase I funding from the U.S. Air Force under the AFWERX SBIR program to develop its Virtual Terrain Walk platform for military mission planning and leader rehearsals, according to a company announcement.
The Virtual Terrain Walk system combines Virtuix's omni-directional treadmill technology with immersive environments, spatial computing, and AI-driven terrain reconstruction. The platform allows warfighters to physically move within geo-specific virtual environments designed to support collaborative mission planning and tactical decision-making for distributed teams of 12 or more warfighters.
The system uses AI-driven 3D reconstruction to convert camera footage of real-world locations into virtual replicas within hours. Soldiers can then physically walk, run, and maneuver together in these virtual environments using Omni One omni-directional treadmills.
Virtuix's locomotion technology is protected by 26 U.S. patents, with additional patents pending. The Austin, Texas-based company develops full-body virtual reality systems for consumer, enterprise, healthcare, and defense markets.
The SBIR selection follows recent deployments and partnerships across the U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps, including sales to the U.S. Air Force Academy and West Point. Virtuix is also developing a VR infantry training system for the U.S. Marine Corps Training and Education Command.
"This Phase I award provides a pathway to Phase II funding that typically exceeds $1 million and larger Phase III opportunities including sole-source government contracts without pre-defined limits," said Jan Goetgeluk, CEO of Virtuix.
The company announced plans to pursue strategic acquisitions in the defense training sector to accelerate expansion across all branches of the U.S. military.
