Rocket Lab passes missile defense review for $816 million contract
Rocket Lab USA Inc. (NASDAQ: RKLB) announced it successfully passed the System Requirements Review for the Space Development Agency's Tracking Layer Tranche 3 constellation program. The milestone confirms that Rocket Lab's proposed satellite solution meets operational requirements for the missile defense program.
The TRKT3 constellation will use Rocket Lab's Lightning satellite platform and feature the company's Phoenix infrared sensor payload for missile warning and tracking capabilities. The satellites will include StarLite space protection sensors and be supported by InterMission Ground Software for command and control operations.
"Passing System Requirements Review demonstrates our technical readiness and validates our approach to delivering space infrastructure," said Brad Clevenger, President of Rocket Lab USA. "The Tracking Layer provides capability for protecting the nation against advanced missile threats."
The TRKT3 contract is valued at approximately $816 million. Combined with Rocket Lab's previously awarded Transport Layer-Beta Tranche 2 program worth approximately $515 million, the company's total Space Development Agency awards exceed $1.3 billion.
Rocket Lab plans to manufacture major satellite components in-house, including infrared sensors, solar arrays, avionics, optical terminals and propulsion systems. The System Requirements Review establishes the technical baseline for the program's development phase.
The information is based on a company press release statement.
